Gun control is a heavily debated topic in America for many years. It is often asked if it is a right to bear arms or just a law that says you can have a gun for fun. Thomas Jefferson once said, “I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."
As people of the United States we have every right to bear arms in our households to protect the things and people we love. With the streets becoming more and more violent with illegal guns we do not need the government taking away guns from honorable citizens, while the criminals will go buy illegal guns from the black-market. The people of America have the right to the Second Amendment of the Constitution, the people that want to kill will still have access to guns even with the strict gun laws in …show more content…

This is supported in courts as well as politics and public views. The amendment, as states, “The Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. In dicta, the Court listed many longstanding prohibitions and restrictions on firearms possession as being consistent with the Second Amendment.” Many home invasions related attacks and violent attacks use firearms and weapons, so many believe that the ownership of a gun may slow violence around them, or may be used to fight off attacks. Columbine being the most notorious, and Virginia Tech, many laws were changed in a result. Tucked in shirts required in schools, more random drug checks, and plans in place for such events are some of the resulting changes that occurred after altering events. Other big events spurring outcries were the string of attacks on nine-eleven. This changed many gun laws around travel agencies via plane, train, and even ship. Airports were changed the most, if an unauthorized gun is anywhere near the flight deck, the majority of the area would be shut down. The nine-eleven attacks largely affected the populations view on weapons and people who use them. This gave a good platform to stand against firearms, and the Democratic Party took advantage of this opportunity soon after, whereas the Republican Party took mostly for firearms. The Gun advocates like to build off of the bad events that have evolved firearms instead of all of the instances that firearms were used to prevent violent crimes. The number of occurrences where a firearm has either been used to prevent a crime or protect families and other citizens triumphs the amount of crimes that have been
