Body: In the case against Adnan Syed; Adnan was accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee on January 13th, 1999. He was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and robbery. He was arrested February 28th, 1999 after Jay Wilds' second testimony which stated that Adnan had planned to kill Hae out of anger the same day of Hae's death. A question to mind is why did Jay not stop Adnan from this proposed plan?
Unless Jay had consciously connected the two previously. Speaking of death, Jay isn’t someone who is unaccustomed to random violence. One time, he tried to stab his friend simply because the friend “hadn’t been stabbed before”. Jay felt it was in his hands to make that right, just like he felt it was in his hands to correct the situation with Adnan and Stephanie. Not to mention, Jay is able to lead the cops straight to Hae’s car.
How many judicial cases are overturned because of bad evidence? Producer Sarah Koenig tells us about the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, an 18-year-old high school student from Baltimore county, Maryland. Her body was found six weeks later in a shallow grave in a local park. Her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed was convicted of her murder the following year on what many consider thin evidence and is now serving a life sentence in prison. Adnan Syed should not have been convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee.
On a different note, Adnan and Hae’s relationship had to be kept secret because their parents did not approve of them dating, which means the Adnan was under a lot of pressure to keep the relationship a secret. When Hae broke up with Adnan, Adnan would have felt betrayed and hurt that someone he gave up so much for didn’t want to be with him anymore. These feelings would have built up inside of Adnan occasionally slipping out in joking comments like, “I’m going to kill that *****”. Adnan probably didn’t plan to murder Hae, he most likely snapped and killed Hae in the heat of the moment says another case specialist. Sometimes, when a person snaps like that they suffer memory loss of the event and cannot remember what they did.
Hae’s best friend, Aisha, told the police that Adnan seemed to be overly involved with Hae. She said that Adnan would show up to her friends’ houses when they were hanging out and constantly paged her when she was out with them as well. She described to the police one specific time when Adnan showed up at a girl’s trip. Aisha said that Hae never minded and that no one found it too weird. Hae wrote a diary entry and in the entry, she described that time as romantic and stated that she loved Adnan.
In it, she says she and Adnan spoke for about 15 to 20 minutes while she was waiting for her boyfriend to give her a ride. Quote, "We left around 2:40," unquoted. Remember, Hae is supposed to be dead by
Also on this note, he was talking bad about Hae. Adnan writing to Aisha saying he wanted to kill someone can prove that he killed
He and his friend Aisha, were both exchanging a note with one another, including him talking bad about Hae. Adnan was writing in pen and Aisha in pencil (Koenig “The Case Against Adnan Syed”). The back of the note they were writing on was a note Hae wrote to Adnan about breaking up. This note mentioned how Adnan was being very immature about their situation. Adnan’s note written in pen is obvious proof of his guilt.
What would you do if you were falsely convicted of murdering your ex-girlfriend? The story of serial narrated by Sarah Koenig is about the 1999 murder case of Hae Min Lee and how new evidence could lead to the state realizing ….. They got the wrong guy. Adnan Syed is the person who was convicted for Hae Min Lee’s murder. Jay Wilds is a key witness to what happened to Hae as well as he admits helping out when they were burying the body.
Jay had Adnan’s phone because when Adnan was done with Hae he’ll call so he did. Adnan called Jay to come for him. Hae’s body was placed in the trunk of her car. Adnan open the trunk to show Jay, Jay was terrified and shocked
Hae liked/loved Adnan. She would write about him in her diary. Hae’s friend named Becky said that “She saw Adnan to be a good boyfriend/person (Koenig “The Breakup”), but other people say that they saw Adnan as controlling. Sarah says that “Adnan did not get a ride from Hae (Koenig “The Breakup”) the day of the murder. Adnan’s friend named Jay said that “Him and Adnan never went to Leaking Park (Koenig “The Breakup”).
According to NBCNews, "Of the people wrongly convicted for homicides more than two-thirds were minorities, including half who were African American. " It's unbelievable that innocent people spend many years in a place where they don't deserve to be. This mistake probably just ruined many lives because the verdict can't be taken back. Now there might be another name added to this list of wrongly convicted, Adnan Syed. In 1999, he was accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, and was found guilty due to one testimony.
Adnan was tried and convicted of a murder based on evidence that was, at points, proven to be misleading or false. The witnesses in the case lied, the timeline the state had was faulty because of its reliance on the cell records, and there are several alibis who say Adnan was not able to commit the crime because he was in other locations. It appears that the state was just trying to pin the crime on anyone they could without looking further into many obvious holes in their understanding of what happened. While it is not entirely clear who killed Hae Min Lee, it is exceedingly clear that there is a minuscule amount of reliable proof that Adnan Syed was the one who killed her and so he should not have been convicted of the crime.
Of course, many people think Adnan Syed is guilty of murdering Hae by contradicting himself, by saying, “I am in here for my own mistakes.” He might have been on the edge of confessing his guilt until Sarah caught this and asked what he meant, and quickly recovers from his mistake. Adnan also slips his tongue by saying that he wants people to only look at the evidence, and not his personality. If I were convicted of a crime I would certainly like to have my personality be looked at, if I were innocent. So they could see what good I have done.
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
