What was Harriet Tubman famous for? Harriet Tubman was a well known instructor or abolitionist for the Underground Railroad, and one of few brave people who escaped slavery. Another accomplishment that Harriet Tubman was known for was having a job in the Civil War. Harriet Tubman was born and raised into slavery, because of this her actual birthday is unknown. She never thought it was fair that her race had to do everything for the whites. One day she escaped slavery with the help of the Underground Railroad, and that still wasn’t enough for her. Tubman had an idea of going back to help other slaves escape as well. She along with others that thought it was unfair became abolitionists. The Underground Railroad was a efficient, and clever way to help the slaves. Harriet’s original name was Araminta Ross, but later took after her mother’s name Harriet. She was not the only an only child but had 7 other siblings. Together there were four girls, and four boys. As you know, Tubman was born into slavery so that is where she grew up, but after she escaped she moved to Maryland, and later to Auburn, New York. After she escaped, she was given a nickname, Moses because of her ability to lead slaves out of slavery. With all of her help and loyalty to helping the slaves, she also was married. In 1844 she married John Tubman when she was around twenty-four years old, they split apart and in 1869 she married Nelson Davis. Tubman never had any children at
