Weird, strange, and revolutionary, are all words used to describe the creator of breakfast cereal, John Harvey Kellogg. He was a well-known health reformer and surgeon whose primary focus was to improve people's diets. He created not only breakfast cereal, which started a family feud between him and his brother, but many treatments to improve diet and mental health. These treatments ranged from month-long baths to involuntary circumcision with no anesthesia. Many of these are not used anymore for their absurdity, but nonetheless, he was a pioneer for health. Which was a monthly publication started by the Adventists that primarily focused on health, and hygiene, advocating for temperance, the usage of natural remedies, and vegetarianism. All of these Kellogg believed in and supported throughout his entire life. In conclusion, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg was the wellness titan of the 19th century and always practiced what he preached. He set the standards for holistic health through his occasionally odd and barbaric treatments for the body and mind at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. From learning about health and wellness from the best to being editor of the Adventist journal the Health Reformer to being the owner of the Battle Creek Sanitarium, he was a well-versed man in his field. Even though he had created many questionable practices that are something one should be happy about, are not around anymore, he did create some practices that are still used today. His brother owned the company but, you can thank this man for peanut butter and granola as well as of course, breakfast cereal and all its glory. He helped pioneer the path for dietary health and vegetarianism that also changed America's breakfast
