One more drop of the puck I thought. All of the work, for the Grand Rapids Griffins at least. Winning the first series, a best-of-five, against the Houston Aeros in a winner take all game five, winning the Conference Quarter-finals, best-of-seven, against the Toronto Marlies in six games, defeating the Oklahoma City Barons in the Conference Finals, and finally one drop of the puck away from the American Hockey League’s most prized possession, the Calder Cup. The game had been a back and forth game with the Crunch scoring first.
After three long years away from his family overseas, John White returned to the Roanoke colony only to discover a site that would raise questions for the next hundreds of years. Carved into a nearby tree of the Roanoke colony, the words “Croatoan” and “Cro” were the last shrew of evidence remaining of the Roanoke colony. The word “Croatoan” remains a mystery amongst scientists and archeologists today. The lost colony of Roanoke has developed many ideas and questions of the settlers’ location. Theories have developed over time but little facts are known about the disappearance of Roanoke’s settlers.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the very first fight of colonists against the British. The first shot of the battle was fired by the British according to the accounts of John Parker and Thomas Fessenden. As John Parke states, the first shot was fired by the British because they were colonists and they were not going to attack first unless they were fired upon first. John states that they fired at them and killed eight of their men. This account is reliable because it is an official testimony, he wouldn 't lie under oath.
There were many appalling prison camps during the Civil War, but the most infamous was Andersonville. A shocking 13,000 people died in this camp(Bartels). They wanted justice, and so the man running the camp, Henry Wirz, was tried and hanged for war crimes(Kohn).
Bridgewater, Va. – The Treasury Department announced on Wednesday April 20th, abolitionist, and anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman is to replace the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. The original plan was to have a woman replace founding father Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill. But that plan was revoked according to Jacob Lew, the Treasury Secretary, when the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical portraying Hamilton’s life gained a lot of support, as reported by USA Today.

The Pickaway Center continues to enjoy our Volunteer Opportunity at the Ross County Dog shelter. The dogs have gotten so use to us coming that they all stand waiting by their cage doors when we enter the back room. When the weather is nice we enjoy taking them for walks, playing fetch our just relaxing with them under the shade tree. We then will come in and make sure the dogs have plenty of fresh water and that their cage area has been cleaned out. Before leaving we make sure to pass out treats and give them one last hug before seeing them

History extra credit The disappearance of the Lost Roanoke colony. Roanoke is an island in North America that is located just off the coast of what is now North Carolina. Valley Forge: Should I re-enlist? The question all soldiers at Valley Forge asked themselves was will I re-enlist? I decided I was going to re-enlist why would I not re-enlist and not let all people whom I’m fighting lose their freedom from a stupid decision I made. Valley Forge sadly was the ugly duck compared to where the Red Coats were staying.
On September 4, 1957 nine African American students changed everything. Civil Rights had to start somewhere and that somewhere was with the desegregation of public schools. One of the biggest impacts was a school called Little Rock Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas. A group of African American students later called “Little Rock Nine” changed their lives by going to a former all white-school. A group of students that wanted public schools to be desegregated was one of the events that led to the Civil Rights Movement.
