Technology has been used by humans since the beginning of our existence, but the things that we see as technology in the modern day are not the same as they were in the beginning of time or even one hundred years ago. During the 1920s, an era of the roaring 20s and the great depression, a numerous amount of new technologies were created with a multitude of reasons as to why, but mainly to advance society. New types of technology were created for health and medicine, cars, and everyday household and entertainment. Dickson had created the idea, because of his wife, Josephine Dickson, that wasn’t the greatest cook, she would always hurt herself while in the kitchen. It was an easier way for smaller cuts and wounds to be covered, before they would have to use surgical tape to attach gauze to their wound. When band aids were first made for the public, they were handmade and not much more convenient than what people had been using before, but as more changes were made to band aids they became more and more popular. Although Henry Ford and his assembly line had been made just before the 1920s, cars and automobiles were still rather new and needed many more improvements to be able to be compared to cars and vehicles today. During the 1920s, many inventions were created to aid in the advancement of automobiles. One of these inventions is brakes. Brakes first appeared on a car in the 1922 Duesenberg, and later in the Chrysler Six in 1924. The Chrysler Six was the first production car to use the Lougheads’ brake system. Invented in 1927 by Philo Farnsworth along with Vladimir Zworkin, the electric television opened up a new door to the world of entertainment. The first mechanical television was created by John Logie Baird in 1925. Numerous household essentials that would be hard to live without today were also invented in the 1920s. Frigidaire created a new self contained fridge unit in 1923, which was a fridge that held all of its components within itself, rather than being detached. An essential for the fridge is that it be cold, but the methyl chloride that was used to cool fridges before the 1920s could be lethal, so people began looking for a safer way to keep their food and drink cool. In 1928, Thomas Midgley, Jr. synthesized chlorofluorocarbons, which was much safer to use in commercial products than methyl chloride.
