There are many types of health issues related to food. One of the biggest health issues related to food is obesity. “Obesity results from an imbalance of calorie intake and is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a disease where the excessive body fat has accumulated to the point where the health of an individual may be greatly affected”(Stevens, 2003). Obesity along with obesity related diseases have greatly increased since the 1970’s in the United States along with the number of fast-food restaurants. Obesity can cause someone a lot of health problems and illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, heart malfunctions, liver disease, hyperlipidaemia, hyperinsulinemia, hypertension and gallbladder disease. America has the cheapest food throughout the whole world. The price of fast food is so cheap that it seems Chavis 2 to be the easy way out in this tough economy. Many people believe that if it was not for fast food they would not be overweight. While fast food is one of the biggest issues in the obesity epidemic, it is not the only issue. Some reasons people in the United States are overweight is because of school, peer pressure, stress, depression, or even just where the person lives. At school lunches start 3 hours after school has started and ends only 2 hours before school is over. Most people eat breakfast in the morning and 3 hours really does not give that food time to settle, so by time lunch comes they are not real hungry but they feel like they have no choice but to eat.
