Many parents believe that they need to be a crucial part of their children 's’ lives. Unfortunately, they do not know that helicoptering a child may have harmful effects on the child’s education. I support Valerie Strauss’s opinion which states that helicopter parents are harming their children. Helicopter parenting mainly harms the children in middle schools and beyond which is why many middle schools are currently creating policies which limit parent access to classrooms. Hardy Knox Middle School has a policy that restricts parents from entering classrooms in order to prevent parents from disturbing classrooms. A college professor whose name is Morgan writes in the comments section of the article In Defense of Helicopter Parents,”Actually, I’m a college professor and the children of helicopter parents do harm the other students in class. I recently assigned a five-page essay and had one student come to see me with a list of questions which her father had after he proofread her essay, but the essay was not her work.”(Belkin) As parents help their children with everyday schoolwork, the unfortunate child is not gaining any learning experience. Since they cannot rely on themselves or their parents, helicoptered students may drop out of college. It is difficult to change a child’s routine when relying on a parent becomes a habit. Don Aucoin, a reporter mentioned in In Defense of Helicopter Parents, writes,”Helicopter students have lower grades than their peers.”(Belkin) Helicopter students have lower grades because they don’t know how to work independently when they are asked to take a test or work on classwork where their parents cannot help
