Who do you admire? Can you think of one amazing person you admire in American history? I know I can, Mr. Henry Ford. You have to know something about him. He’s taught about at school, an American icon, such an important person to history. I adore ford, without him we would not have a lot of things. Even simple things many people did not and still do not know that he has accomplished. Do you know some inventions by Mr. Ford? Let’s start with the basics, inventor or innovator. First, let’s get to know Ford a little better. Henry Ford, born on July 30, 1863. He was born on his family’s farm in Wayne County, near Dearborn, Michigan. When he was a young boy at the age of 13, his father gave him a watch. He took it apart and put it back together again. He had impressed everyone. Soon, people started going to Ford asking for help with fixing some of theirs. That next year he wouldn’t be working on his family’s farm like he has and disliked for years. He had left home at the age of 16, to take an apprenticeship as a machinist in Detroit. But that didn’t last long. Not only was he working for the company, but he was also working on the side for himself hoping to invent a propelled vehicle. The “Quadricyle” was supposed to transport people to get where they need to go faster. He wasn’t the first to invent a propelled vehicle, but he was one of the major factors that the United States became a nation of motorist. Ford later on decided he himself wanted to start his own company of manufacturing automobiles. In 1903, the Ford Motor company had come about in Detroit. But ford doesn’t stop there. In 1908, he had introduced a vehicle that would change the world of transportation, the Model T. It had become so popular, everyone wanted one. They were easy to maintain, operate, and handled rough roads very well. Since the Model T was in such high demand, ford decided to establish another company at Highland Park, Michigan in 1910. He was a remarkable business man. Seeing that production of cars was entirely too slow he revolutionized the way factories work by introducing what is known today as an assembly line. Which then caused mass production. This fine invention increased production, and lowered costs in every way. Companies all around the world jumped on the assembly line wagon and created their own in their own factories. Just look around, even today’s times still use it.
