As evident through my Common Application essay, the high school I come from parallels Caltech in numerous ways: from the focus on STEM related majors to the rubik's cube club, robotics team, and Pokémon club. Additionally, another similarity in the size of the small student population creates a supportive environment that I have learned to thrive in during high school. For example, Caltech has one of the most effective honor codes within schools today as its emphasis on encouraging students to be against taking advantage of each other results in a collaborative community where students trust and help each other. Furthermore, the honor code brings a safe environment to focus on learning the material of the lessons instead of competing to beat your peers on an exam. Since, I participate in sports, I look at my high school class as a team, and we are all working towards a collective goal of creating a solid foundation to be successful in the future. Not only are there numerous nobel laureate professors there, Caltech’s small, but powerful, army of faculty have been carefully selected to enlighten the undergraduates there. With less professors than other universities, Caltech’s teachers are required to think interdisciplinary in order to compete in their academic research communities. This caliber of thinking will aid my interests in pushing the potential abilities of computer science and biology aiding each other. For instance, in the Lea Goentoro lab, students are utilizing computer imaging techniques and languages to research how cells respond to changes in their environment by logarithmic sensing. Consequently, this type of research is similar to the projects I would like to pursue in my undergraduate studies; moreover, it is the cross disciplinary state of mind the professors possess at Caltech that allows for such revolutionary research to be
