High school eligibility ramifications vs. college eligibility
The purpose of interscholastic sports should be to enhance the overall experiences of athletes by contributing to their physical, mental, psychological, social, and emotional development. In addition to enhancing these sport skills and physical and physical fitness, its is claimed that high school athletes should develop character, self-confidence, and self-discipline, to learn to win and lose class, learn teamwork, and gain skills that they can later use in their lives. For starters the purpose of eligibility rules in high school sports is to create an even playing field for all participating athletes. High school sports eligibility concerns differ from collegiate sports in many different ways but most ramifications mainly deal with student athletes and their ties to the community through their respected schools. For example, according to Practical Ethics in Sport Management, “Interscholastic sports are rallying symbols for communities where on Friday nights on rural fields and in local gymnasiums, where teams and towns vie for bragging rights in football and basketball.” This implies that in most circumstances these towns and areas are invested in their sport teams and that their production and success is important to its town citizens. Although at the high school level many student athletes are expected to follow rules and regulations, we understand as a society that they are not yet fully responsible for their decisions. So as adults we make a lot of their decisions for them and advise them hopefully to make the right moral decisions for themselves when we are not there. At the high school level, the goal of teachers and coaches a like should be to prepare the student athlete for their future roles in society. This means not only giving them the tools to apply knowledge but also giving them a healthy balance of moral values such as honesty, integrity, acceptance, trust, and forgiveness. As leaders of school, staff members understand many parents are not teaching their kids the moral values they need at home, and to much violence and dishonesty in seen in everyday society to instill these values later in life. So even though some of the same values are used later in college the focus is on different values. In high school the focus is more on the values such as honesty and forgiveness. Honesty is a main ethical value pinpointed in high school because it is a value that is seen to be best understood in teaching moments. Naturally as adolescents we all make mistakes that we have to learn from. Our brains are still growing till past our mid twenties and that’s why it is so importance that in many cases that we
