I am deeply honored and humbled to be among the brilliant and best students who are being considered for the NHS. I have been looking forward to this opportunity since I was accepted at Brophy. I know that National Honor Society does great things in our world today. I was a part of National Junior Honor Society at Saint Theresa Catholic School and that that has had a huge impact on the person I am today. I believe that I exemplify the four pillars of National Honors Society, those being character, scholarship, leadership, and service.
When I first hear about National Honor Society in the beginning of my middle school years I knew that it was something I not only wanted to be a part of but that I was meant to be a part of. Growing up much of my time was spent around adults causing me to mature quickly and realize things others my age did not. I have always been driven and independent and accept noting but the best from myself especially when it comes to academics. I maintained straight A's all throughout my education up until high school. Having a 6.4 GPA freshman year and a 6.1 GPA at the beginning of junior year as well as being number 141 of 713 in my class.
What does it mean to have character? Character is what makes each person so individual. Character is very specific to each person, and everyone’s character is different. Character can be broken down into six different pillars; each one exemplifying what is truly means to be a Nation Honor Society candidate, which is why character continues to be one of the most important pillars in National Honor Society.
Although my grades were not always consistent, I never earned less than a B for a final grade in my English courses. Often my instructors privately told me that my papers were the best in the class and shared my work with others. My writing secured me a free trip to London and Paris with my business club as well as my acceptance into multiple colleges. I am certain my extracurricular activities, including cheerleading, volleyball, community service projects, fundraisers and employment also played a vital role in these accomplishments. Of all the schools to which I applied, only VSU waitlisted me probably because of my phobia about standardized examinations, which caused me not to perform as well as I should have on the SAT.
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Getting good grades is a priority to me. The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority.
Importance of Being Prepared “Scout’s Honor” by Avi is a realistic fiction short story about three boys who go on a camping trip by themselves, in a different state, for Boy Scouts. In the beginning, the main character doesn’t feel brave enough, so he goes on a camping trip with his two best friends. Soon, they realize they don’t really know what they are doing and where they need to go. In the end they all admit they aren’t brave enough, which made them braver. The boys were not mature enough, though.
Cheating, stealing, and plagiarizing have become increasingly more prevalent in schools across the nation. The outbreak of cheating has ignited a debate about whether or not schools should establish an honor system with the intent of drastically decreasing it. There is controversy over the effectiveness of honor codes in a school, but the number of schools establishing them is constantly increasing as schools are noticing results. High schools, colleges, and universities taking the initiative to implement honor codes which discourage dishonesty and promote academic integrity have all witnessed a decline in cheating, reinforcing the idea that honor codes are a practical solution to this serious, ongoing problem. In schools, cheating and plagiarism is unacceptable. No matter the situation a student may be in, cheating is not the answer. It is unfair for a student to cheat or plagiarize other’s work. Many schools have put an honor code in place, so students understand the seriousness when cheating is taking place. My school does not have an honor code that every student must follow.
Getting into University has been a dream in the making. One of the driving factors behind this dream has been for my family and my passion for art and design. I grew up showcasing my artistic talent on my grandma's living room walls to her dismay. Luckily for me no punishment seemed necessary. On the contrary the skill I possessed was seen as an opportunity for my future, I just needed to be guided in the right direction.
I went to study art so I could learn new techniques and use them with my exceptional perception to get my art noticed. In that time period of studying, people at school could quibble about my art all they wanted, but I didn't let it bother me. Before I began my third semester at Lone Star College, I wanted to take a physics honors class. Then my honors director convinced me that since I had not taken a university physics class yet, attempting to work on an honors project while still learning the material and attending the class would not produce the best project. Through many meetings with him we were able to come up with something I could do for an honors project this semester. I could come up with a potential topic, and then work with a professor one on one to work on this project. After a few meetings, this professor and I came up with an interesting idea to try and build our own information retrieval system, or search engine, for the math department website.

I have excelled tremendously in my academics. I am 26 in my graduating class of 437. I also have maintained over a 4.0 GPA my entire high school career Specifically, I have excelled in my math and science classes.
