Teenagers in NZ are not getting the education they need to secure good jobs. We see this in the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. Teenagers can't land secure jobs in the future because families can’t afford for education and they don't care about their children enough, unluckily this can lead to juvenile delinquency as our world evolves.

Firstly teenager in NZ can’t land secure jobs because their families can afford to send their child to a good school. New Zealand is the fifth top country in child neglect and abuse and thats not a thing to be proud of. Studies have shown that over 25% of children that have experienced child neglection will have low academic achievement and other bad things such as teen pregnancy, and mental health problems. Research has also shown that from the time period of July 1st 2014 to June 30th 2015 there has been 16 472 of substantiated findings of abuse, that is just one year of research and is estimated to increase in the years to come and think about all the situations that hadn’t been reported, the outcome of this will be that instead of going to school and learning they have more important things to worry about at such a young age like if they are gonna get dinner tonight or will their parents finally say i love you and once you loose that foundation of learning that you get at that young age it will be much harder to catch up when your older. We see this in the novel when Zero’s mum just leaves him at the playground at such a young age, leaving him to his own, does she expect him to find food that night does she know that he is still there did she forget about her OWN child that she took so much hard work to bring to this land. In my thought i think that this is tremendously wrong if you bring a child to this world you are also bringing a huge responsibility to look after that child and give it what it needs to grow up …show more content…

Research has found that in 2010 there were 3939 cases of juvenile delinquency and to add that all up that is a lot of offences, a lot of charges, a lot of children that could have been successful but fell through the cracks, and you can’t fully blame them, if they aren’t doing so well in school or if they’re having family problems they think that there is no where to turn to other than youth offences. We see this in the story when Zero steals Clyde Livingston's shoes from the homeless shelter, he later confesses that he only stole the shoes because he didn’t know and couldn’t read the sign that said it was the famous baseball player. In my opinion i think we should be doing more to help them so they won’t turn to crime and giving them education that is affordable, at least the basics so they won’t do anything that they will regret in the
