How Ancient Egypt has affected modern-day life. By: Everett Hamm & Co. This essay will discuss how ancient Egypt affects our modern-day life; including things like hieroglyphics, the calendar and timekeeping, furniture, toothpaste, and religion which have majorly impacted us in our modern-day lives, as well as how we use them every day. First are our tables and toothpaste; the first was manufactured in 5000 BC or 7024 years ago, and our furniture in 2500 BC or 4524 years ago. The Egyptians concocted a mixture of crushed ox hooves, ashes, pumice, and burnt eggshells into a powder mix which helped with dental hygiene but caused bleeding gums. The furniture was produced like the table created before toothpaste and the folding. The table was created to keep objects off the floor, the folding chair on the other hand was designed as a place to sit when at an event. Now we are going to be talking about the main language, Egyptian Arabic. Egyptian Arabic was created in 3100 BC, was spoken by 68% of Egyptians, and was written in hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics are pictures in the form of writing, but are not picture writings. It is a type of formal writing. Very few knew how to write because there were over 700 symbols. Only one percent of Egyptians knew how to read and write. Archaeologists are still trying to decipher the ancient symbols.
