The Hunger Games and The Goonies have many similarities and differences in their approaches to the Hero’s Journey. The Call to adventure, the test/allies/enemies, and the reward have many similarities and differences which each manifest how the Hero’s Journey can be expressed in various texts.

In the Call to Adventure piece of the Hero’s Journey, there are many similarities and differences in the way that the texts The Hunger Games, and the Goonies, express this section of the story. One similarity between the two texts is the main characters are each doing this “task” to save someone or something. One similarity between the two texts is the main characters are faced with many life-threatening hardships. In the Hunger Games, Katniss has been faced with many harsh deprivations such as a burning forest, an explosion at the cornucopia, getting ambushed by tracker jackers, near starvation, etc. These were very difficult trials that Katniss was faced with and affected her throughout the book in the ways that she advances throughout the game. This made it difficult for Katniss to hear out of her ear, have the strength to put her abilities to the test, etc. In the Goonies, the Goonies are also faced with many challenges such as the Fratelli’s chasing after them, the bone organ that nearly caused them to die, Chunk isn’t with them at the moment, etc. This made it challenging for the Goonies to have tranquility throughout their adventure through the cave. One difference between the two texts is Katniss only had two allies, and the Goonies had several more. In The Goonies, they started with each other and ended with each other through the whole journey. The Goonies had Chunk, Mikey, Data, Mouth, Brand, and a couple other people. This helped with their strength of knowing each other, and in the Hunger Games, Katniss only had Rue and Peeta. Katniss had just met Rue in the games which

In the Hunger Games when Katniss wins the games, she is granted a bunch of money, fame, she gets to go back to her family, and is basically set for life. In the Goonies, they also get a reward with all of the treasure, and saving their neighborhood, getting to go back to their families, etc. This then makes the Goonies have a good life after, along with the Hunger Games. But, in the Hunger Games, Katniss is able to have all of the money which she was granted and won’t have to worry about expenses ever again. In the Goonies, they are unable to get the money because they wanted to save their lives. Although in the Goonies, they were able to save their houses for the time being, they will still have to worry about expenses in the future. In the Goonies, the most important reward for them was not having to leave each other and being able to still be friends. But for Katniss, her main problem in the story was getting home. As she did so, she was very happy to see Prim and her family, but she is still temporarily controlled by the government and is forced to do what they say, etc. In the Goonies, they were able to save their neighborhood and everything was over after that. This makes it more stressful for Katniss’s future, even though she has such a large amount of money. In both texts, they each receive what is most important though,
