For a long time, people chewed almost anything until a sweet, pink invention was made. It was an invention used for many things. Bubblegum was made almost a century ago. Bubblegum changed society. People still chew bubble gum today. When Walter Diemer invented bubble gum society loved it, but some people still ask why. Before people had bubble gum people were still chewing on things. Ancient people were chewing parts of trees for thousands of years. Chewing gum was made 900 years ago. John Curtis made gum from spruce trees in the first chewing gum factory. Diemer and Fleer invented Dubble Bubble as the first bubble gum. Instead of doing his job as an accountant, Diemer was trying different gum recipes. Diemer got promoted to head of Dubble Bubble making.
