African Americans faced severe segregation and social isolation during the Civil Rights Era. It had many negative effects on the society. There were separate public facilities for white and African American people, such as drinking fountains, schools, restaurants, restrooms, and many other places. Segregation in the United States tore the nation apart.Numerous African Americans felt that it was time to put an end to discrimination and segregation.
