This whole idea of marriage is the reason Ishmael compared the
God's standard for marriage is one man for one woman unless otherwise commanded by the lord. This section talks about how when you get married you become a whole, and your partner is your other half. Which can make decision easier and your life more stable. Being married in the Temple is important because not only are you fulfilling your covenants in order to make it to the celestial kingdom, you are also being bound to someone for all eternity.

I really enjoyed the Epic of Gilgamesh. The story opens by presenting Gilgamesh as king of Uruk. He is two thirds god and one third human, and thus is extremely powerful. He wreaks havoc on the city, sleeping with the women and exhausting the men through games. The people cry out to the gods for help, and they respond by creating Enkidu, a wild man.
The two articles present very different perspectives on sex ethics in the Jewish tradition, one perspective is more traditional and the other one is influenced by the changes of the modern world. In Lamm’s article a sexual encounter either follows or breaks the rules of the Halacha. By contact, Green’s article describes a spectrum between the forbidden and the ideal sexual experiences. Lamm’s article makes the point that the old purpose of “perpetuating the family, the faith, and the human race” is no longer the goal of sex now that people use contraception. This goal has been replaced with the pursuit of having fun.
In Hebrew culture women were expected to be virgins before they got married. The women could even be penalized with death. Yet that did not stop the lovers from engaging in their love fest. Not too far away from Jerusalem there was an ancient poet who resided in ancient Greece during the Archaic Period, her name was Sappho. She was known for her lyric poetry and often wrote poems about love and desire between women.
This could be due to that fact that gods and goddesses are also shown to have two sets of standards for sexual fidelity. When Calypso was told to release Odysseus she mentioned these unfair standards, “Hard-hearted you are, you gods! You unrivaled lords of jealousy-scandalized when goddesses sleep with mortals.” (The Odyssey, Book 5, pg 317, lines 130-133) Calypso 's complaint shows that even divine beings in Greek culture have different standards for women and men.
I think the argument of this essay was about the love that author describes in the songs, and also, understanding the man and his music: his sexuality and his spirituality. According to the article, some people believed that Prince as one of the most sexual artists of all time. The main argument of the essay was how people judge prince and his work. The quote mention in the article “People may consider the work of Prince to be electrifyingly erotic” and “This is the erotic intertwined with the divine. The Judeo-Christian ethic seems to demand that sexuality and spirituality be walled off from each other”.

The “sexually immoral” (TNIV) or “fornicator” (NRSV) was a person characterized by sexual sin; it is a noun and comes from the root to sell as in to prostitute (Pornos ____). The word translated “sexually immoral” πόρνος G4205 occurrences 10 times including one other use in Hebrews (1 Cor. 5:1, 9-11; 1 Cor. 6:9; Eph. 5:5; 1 Tim.
Ancient Greek sexuality and gender roles and their place in society were very different from what is considered the societal norm today. Society, law and democracy focused on the adult male citizen [Source 9], with mainstream sexuality being defined as his active pursuit of a partner of lower social status than himself who was expected to be passive in both the courtship and the sex act itself [Source 2][Source 6][Source 10]. This partner could be a woman, an adolescent boy, or slaves of either gender. It should probably be pointed out at this point that, while much has been written on “Greek homosexuality,” the Ancient Greeks themselves would not have seen it as such, as such definitions only really came into usage relatively recently [Source 4]. The Ancient Greeks had no concept of “gay” as we would understand it, as equally no concept of “straight.”
These almighty figures are the world’s greatest thing because they never harm humans, they don’t desire sexual needs from mortals, and they don’t expect endless gifts and sacrifices. According to the Christian bible, one of the most despicable acts a person can indulge in is adultery and lust, but when analyzing the poem, we can see that many Greek gods and goddesses partake in this shameful behavior. In Ancient Rome, sexual power was central to everything. From the traditional moral codes to the drama of the fights for political power, sexuality and acceptable behaviors were a constant. The societal systems in place required female sexuality to be monitored and controlled because of the Roman drive to expand an individual’s, a family’s or the empire’s influence as much as possible in all arenas. For much of the Roman Empire, this drive for influence was accomplished through making connections between families, either formally through marriage or informally through affairs. Sexuality was part of everyday life, since children and the question of inheritance both of property and of power were of the upmost importance.
Religion is the way someone chooses to live their life and what God to worship. It provides humans with comfort, like rules. The rules are important to because that way people can be true to their religion. Many big questions on how to live and what will happen after death can be answered by religion. A community is also provided with people that have the same beliefs.
