The steroid era has been a big thing the past ten years in major league baseball. This has been going on since the late 80’s and thought to end in the late 2000’s but is still a big issue till this day. Steroids have been banned since 1991 but, the league did not implement league wide PED testing until 2003. The lack of testing made it easier for players to cheat and use all kinds of different steroids and not get caught using them. In 1996, a player named Mark McGwire of the Oakland Athletics led all of major league baseball with fifty three home runs even though missing part of the season. In 2001, a player named Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants hit a league leading and record breaking seventy three home runs. His previous seasons Barry Bonds did not reach the fifty home run mark. He had hit his 500th home in in the 2001 season. In the next season in 2002 Barry Bonds reached 600 home runs. After the 2002 season the testing for steroids finally began. Barry Bonds was the first to be accused for steroids and they began using multiple testing on Barry Binds but he was never caught in his year and was able to keep playing. Through his years of baseball Barry Bonds was tested over and over again though never getting caught. After Barry Bonds retired the testing of using steroids never ended for him and didn’t stop till being out of baseball for five years and after they stopped testing Barry Bonds they still never found anything on him using steroids. He was a very young star and people depended on him to be the face of baseball for the next fifteen to twenty years. He was under pressure and was pressured to perform at a very high level and a very young age. He had a good couple seasons before being traded to the Texas Rangers and was granted the highest contract in major league baseball. After a couple seasons with Texas he was traded to the New York Yankees where he was later accused of using steroids. After a tough couple season of being accused he finally spoke up and admitted he did use banned substances when he began his seasons with the Texas Rangers. He was suspended for over half the season next year. Years later in 2013, major league baseball suspended Rodriquez for 211 games for his involvement in steroid scandals. This suspension kept him of the field for the entire 2014
