From 1607 to the year before the Declaration of Independence, democratic society had been developing in the colonies over time through specific events. From religion to politics to social class, people looking to change the their lifestyle has done so with their own ideals in mind. Both the Zenger case of 1734 and Bacon’s Rebellion in 1676 are examples of people who found the government unjust taking matters into their own hands. While Bacon was more violent in his efforts compared to Zenger in his methods, both contributed to the development of a more democratic society in the colonies, and distancing from the monarchy of their matriarch. Nathaniel Bacon was the leader in a rebellion against what he deemed an unjust government.
From the American Revolution to the 1950s, the most common understanding of Bacon's Rebellion was that it was a precursor of the American Revolution, a premature revolt against British tyranny that represented but a temporary setback for American liberty. American revolution, in no way, can it ever be compared it Bacon’s rebellion. The key concepts American revolution was liberty and democracy -- which there was none found in Bacon’s rebellion.
The Scientific Revolution occurred roughly between 1550 and 1700. Some people also refer to the time period to be between the lives of Nicholas Copernicus and Issac Newton, to state who the revolution started with and who it ended with (Hatch). It doesn't mean there aren't changes to our scientific processes today, this was just a time period in our history that has recorded information of large changes happening often. The changes were very large and many people were against the views of the men who made the changes/discoveries. Since people put their religion first, the sudden views that made God nonexistent were immediately ignored by citizens and courts ordered many scientists to stay in their homes at all times.
Prior to the Industrial Revolution, in the 16th century, developments within the scientific world were made, this was known as the Scientific Revolution. Developments were made in mathematics, physics, astronomy, and more. These ideas changed the way people viewed science and made room for new innovations which would impact the future. Although the Industrial Revolution had its positive effects, more negative effects came from it, these included, a growing wealth gap between the rich and the poor, disease and contamination, and harsh working conditions.
The scientific revolution made a vast impact on everyday lives, it caused computers, phones, and other items to be invented. This revolution has caused many conflicts, and with these conflicts it had changed the way people lived and made many people question life. The revolution had made many benefits for people and there were also some people that were harmed during this time. The scientific revolution had many different actions that caused wonderful objects to be invented and allowed people to know more about the world. Different actions were done to create the scientific revolution similar to when the societies developed conflicts, such as when Copernicus made the solar system, how the conflicts changed the societies by the church going against people, the people who experience harmed such as Galileo, and the people who benefitted from the change such as other boys.
The Bacons rebellion, King Phillip War , Glorious Revolution was the reason for the Colonial crisis. The power struggle between stubborn, selfish leaders is what caused economic issues, including the right to vote, and a decrease in crop’s for survival. The social class, making the poor an established name of category is what created more crisis. The Salem Witch trials reflected on the colonial crisis in many ways.
This caused many major conflicts. The Church did everything in their power to prove their point and make everyone believe it (Doc 3). The Revolution invented the scientific method, painstaking method used to confirm findings and to prove or disprove a hypothesis.
During the 16th and 17th century, Europe had just experienced the Age of Exploration and the Renaissance which encouraged people to continue to question old ideas and seek out answers on their own. The printing press is now a tool to spread new ideas like wildfire, assuring that anything published will be widely seen. In addition, nation states are competing for power and wealth and there’s no better way to do that than to learn about the sciences to create new ways to solve problems, thus making money and gaining influence in the world. The scientific revolution was a time that took place right after the Renaissance, the Renaissance was time period between the 1500’s and 1700’s where many were celebrating life and the start of a new period. During the Renaissance people started to question the beliefs of the Catholic Church. However, leading into the scientific revolution the church still mained their high power. The Scientific Revolution started a domino effect of people beginning to understand the powers they held. People could freely ask questions instead of indiscriminately accepting what they were told. A basic summary of this effect is written in the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, “When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and assume among the powers of the earth…which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them…” (p. 72).
