Galileo Galilei

Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. He was the first child of six born to Vincenzo Galilei, (who was a well known musician) and Guilia Ammannati. In 1574, him and his family moved to Florence where Galileo started his education at the Camaldolese monastery in Vallombrosa. In 1583, Galileo attended the University of Pisa to study medicine. Studying there, he became very fascinated with many subjects, especially math and physics. While with him being at Pisa, he was exposed to the Aristotelian view of the world, At First, he supported this view and was on track to be a college professor, but, he could not finish …show more content…

Galileo’s influences were a big part of his success as a scientist. Copernicus greatly influenced Galileo. Copernicus created the sun-center, or heliocentric, theory. This astronomical theory stated that the sun is the stationary center of the universe and that all planets, including Earth, rotated around it. Although the Catholic Church did not support this theory, Galileo strongly believed that it was true, and attempted to help prove it, using his newly renovated telescope. Hans Lippershey was a talented spectacle-maker. Although it’s not certain whether he created the original telescope, he is greatly known for improving its magnification. When Galileo heard of the improvements Lippershey had made to the telescope, he too was inspired to improve it. He eventually was able to make a telescope with a magnification 30 times greater than the original.
