In the 20th century, Picasso moved to Paris, France to start his own studio. Many artists called this time the Blue Period of his adult career, which was from 1901-1904. Picasso 's famous paintings from the Blue period were "Blue Nude", "LaVie", and "The old Guitarist". Picasso also was interested in warmer colors and called this period the Rose period from 1904-1906.
The most influential is Pablo Picasso and his paintings. “Les Demoiselles was the precursor of a new style called cubism” (395). Cubism was a new style of modern art. With the spread of technology and finding its’ way into the art realm, it produced a new style art called “Futurism”. Since the Modernism era was about expression away from tradition, this idea was the birth of “expressionism” in art.
Artist during this time wanted to do something different. At this time artist started using the brushstroke technique. This technique helped their paintings obtain the texture that was expected from the artist. The color in impressionism honesty in their paintings gave the paintings rough looks that will be considered the opposite from what the salon wanted. This differs from previous eras within art because the impressionists were artist who wanted to do something that was different from the rest and would make them unique.
The figures are nude like the Matisse’s and Cezanne’s ones. Also, those figures seem to be so flat. (Harris & Zucker, n.d.). For the differences, they made Picasso’s painting to be breaking free of Cezanne’s one although the latter was the one, upon which the Cubist style was created.
Pablo Picasso has been one of the most influential artists of the 1920s. Through out his life, his creative styles have varied from realism to abstraction, neoclassicism to surrealism, and cubism. Picasso’s art has been influenced by a number of different things. They range from people or events close to him, to cultures half way across the world. He has created thousands of masterpieces and inspired people with his art.
The painting along with many other’s like it is an embodiment of the idea behind the cubist art, with it’s 3-D like features and the reconstructions of object to show the viewer a bigger image.
This proves these would not have been affected if it were not for his genus. Pablo Picasso invented cubism. Cubism had critical impact on the state of painting, if not for its existence painting would be changed forever. Pablo Picasso was an artistic, revolutionary mastermind, which has impacted the development of modern and contemporary art during the cubist’s art movement. Picasso is a Spanish painter born in Malaga, Spain in 1881 and studied art under his father before moving to Paris, France. While studying in Paris, Picasso found new ideas to practice new styles and experimented with a variety of different art forms. He updated his style with each further experimentation, leading up to his distinct movements: the blue period, the rose period, African influenced style, to cubism, surrealism, and realism.
Pablo Picasso is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, known for creating Cubism among art along with many famous works including Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and Guernica, the latter of which will be talked about in this essay. Picasso was born October 25, 1881 and died April 8, 1973, spending most of his adult life in France painting, sculpting, writing, and much more. He also went through periods of different types of painting styles including the Blue Period, the Rose Period, and a few others. Guernica was from a period of Picasso’s named “surrealism” which consists of illogical scenes and strange creatures created from inanimate objects. Guernica went from an artist’s depiction of a horrific bombing to a revered art masterpiece.
The painting demonstrated that he wanted to destroy the whole of Western art since the early Renaissance. Not only the proportions, but the organic integrity and continuity of the human body are denied here. In 1912，Picasso began to combine Cubism and collage. This was where he would use sand or plaster in his paint to give it texture.
Picasso painted using neoclassical style to recall the works of Ingres and Raphael. However, in 1925, Andre Breton influenced Picasso to use surrealist style. Andre Breton declared in his article Le Surrealisme et la peinture that Picasso was a surrealist. At the time, Picasso’s work depicted cubism and neoclassical style. Due to the announcement, Picasso developed new images that showed his emotions.
The painting Les Demoiselles D Avignon by Picasso is considered one of the most important work that defined the era of Cubism in modern art. The central argument in my paper is to understand Les Demoiselles D Avignon as a revolutionary painting of Modern Art. “Among the several sins that I have been accused of committing, none is more false than the one that I have, as the principal objective in my work, the spirit of research.” Picasso strongly believed art existed in the present and was not about researching previous works of art. To the famous painter, Cubism was not merely a phase in art because “Arts of transition do not exist.” In other words, art is not a process in any way; it is an ongoing, live being. Picasso rejected attempts at finding intellectualism in Cubism, stating that in art, it did not matter what one was looking for; only the result of what was found should be displayed.
