The Raising of the Cross, a painting by the Flemish painter, Peter Paul Rubens, was created between the years of 1610-1611. Peter Rubens painted the picture for the main altar of Antwerp’s church of Saint Walpurgis, which was knocked down in the year of 1817. “The triptych marked Ruben’s sensational introduction of the Baroque style into Northern Art” (Kren).
