Ronald Ross was the first person to demonstrate that malaria parasites could be transmitted from infected patients to mosquitoes. With further work with bird malaria, Ross showed that mosquitoes could pass ons malaria parasites from bird to bird. The problem of malaria transmission was solved. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1902 for his work on malaria.

He dissected the stomach tissues of many anopheline mosquitos. He found the parasites in their stomachs. He later went on to prove the role of Anopheles mosquitoes in the transmission of parasites in humans.
