How Does Wavelength Affect The Growth Of Plants

429 Words2 Pages

The experiment was conducted to understand the effect of different wavelengths on the growth of plants through the use of investigative processes. By making filters out of cellophane to try and limit the light the plants are exposed to so it is easy to compare the growth between wavelengths completed this experiment. It is intended that the experiment will replicate the background research to clearly show that certain wavelengths allow the plants to grow faster or causes it to die and hence showing which colour the chlorophyll uses more of. It was hypothesised that the plants only exposed to the blue or yellow light will grow the most. The plants used in this experiment will be basil (Ocimum basilicum) , an easy plant to grow and maintain. Basil grows best in direct sunlight and It is recommended that the basil plant is watered at least once a week. To thrive and grow basil like all plants need …show more content…

The colour seen is a result of the light reflected into our eyes. The three primary colours are blue, red ad green these all can be mixed in different quantities to produce all the colours on the colour spectrum. The light wavelengths can be identified by its frequency also known as how fast the wavelength vibrates. http://sciencelearn.org.nz/Contexts/Light-and-Sight/Science-Ideas-and-Concepts/Colours-of-light The process of photosynthesis uses the energy from sunlight to convert glucose from CO2 and H2O. Photosynthesis mainly occurs in the leaf, which has adaptions such as its thinness to allow gasses to diffuse quicker, and they also have a large surface area to maximise light absorption. Another reason why it occurs in the leaf is because it has all the necessary structures to perform photosynthesis efficiently.
