INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Schools first began providing food children because so many were malnourished and farmers had extra crops to sell. What started as a good cause has become a big problem. School cafeterias in the past served real food.
Ladies in hairnets or more like lunch ladies mashed real potatoes, boiled real pasta and even baked real cookies. Most of the food was free of artificial flavors which have been known to trigger bad behavior, decreased learning capacity, and health problems. There was no such thing as sports drinks or energy drinks purchasable anywhere back then.

The school canteen is important because; first of all, it gives the students a taste of healthy foods; second, it supports nutrition messages taught in class; and third, it shows the students better choices for lunches and snacks. The research seeks to explore the following fields of sanitation, academic performance, nutritional value and marketability of the sold products.
This became the basis of the researchers to focus on the problem regarding the outcome on how the food of the school cafeterias, specifically how it affects Saint Vincent Catholic School affect students’ academic performance and their overall state. The researchers chose to study the given topic to find if the school cafeteria meets the aim of the society and standard of the students in terms of nutritional value of products, its marketability and cost, sanitation of the facilities and its adequacy and for the cafeteria to be informed on the things that they must improve in their …show more content…

It will provide them further understanding of how it affect the students or/and consumer and be aware of the possibilities.
Future Researchers. This study will be beneficial to future researchers by providing them reference for future researches.
Definition of Terms Artificial flavors. According to an article, artificial flavors trigger bad behavior, decreased learning capacity and health problems (2005). Breakfast Program. According to Randy Bell, students who participate in it have improved attendance and less tardiness, better comprehension, learning and memory and higher math, reading and standardized test scores (2013).
Canteen. According to Danila, a canteen has a special role to play in education, health and well-being of the students (2010).
Canteen Food. According to Hanumante, canteen food meets nutritional recommendation to the students and hopefully satisfies the consumers. The food is prepared in large batches and the food handlers stay behind the counter to our food (2011).
Healthy Lunch. According to Jonathan J. James, students who consumed a healthy lunch not only decreased absenteeism but performed incrementally better on Key stage 2 tests, which are used in schools throughout the U.K during primary school years
