A police officer is sworn to protect the community and the citizens who occupy the communities. Furthermore, they take an oath to protect anyone in need. There are some bad apples in the bunch just as there are some bad citizens in the communities. In the police department in which I work for, we handle incidents just as we always have despite the social media uproar. The only things that we have changed, is the manner in which we address the concerns expressed in the media. It is true that social media has changed the way that the police officers perform their duties and communicate with the citizens. Not everything seen on social media or on news outlets is reliable.
