Born on July 6th, 1747, John Paul’s father was a gardener and grew up in the slums of southwest Scotland. John Paul at 12 years old was sailing the seas as an apprentice. Apprenticing under a merchant whose name was John Younger, John Paul was a cabin boy and sailed all over under Younger. Sailing across the Atlantic, John Paul made it to Fredericksburg, Virginia to visit his older brother, William. In 1766, Younger’s merchant business had gone under and failed.
Just two years after he arrived at the Art Institute, he began to study Synchronism, which focused on the musical qualities of color. He then moved to New York in 1913 to experiment with his new found interest in Synchronism. He created beautiful pieces of art in his time in New York. Soon after he moved to New York, he was drafted for World War I.
Upton Sinclair was an only child born on September 20, 1878. He was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Even though his name was respected in the South from his great-grandfathers fame in the War of 1812, Upton Sinclair grew up in a family without much money. Any profit his father made was spent on alcohol. Living in poverty, the family moved often, unable to pay rent.

Mary Shelley Mary Shelley was born on August 30 1797 in Somers Town, Great Britain. Her parents were well known because her Mother was a feminist and her father was a philosopher, journalist, and a writer. But when Mary Shelley was born, her Mother died from giving birth. So Mary Shelley was raised by her biological father and her step mother for all of her life. Mary Shelley grew up in London with her three year old sister whose name was Fanny Imlay.
Winston Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace on November 30th in 1874. When Churchill was about two him and his parents, Randolph and Jennie, moved to Ireland. Lord Randolph became an unofficial sectary to his father, the Duke of Marlborough. In 1882 Churchill entered in St. George’s School and two years later enters in The Misses Thompson’s school. And in 1888 Churchill entered Harrow School.

During this free time, Wells made an effort to read many books, which lead him to falling in love with books.
Tennyson was born in Somersby, the United Kingdom in 1809. He was born into a large family household with 13 members. As a young boy, Tennyson's life was not always easy. His father's decent income was not enough to support his enormous family size. As a result, Tennyson received his pre-university education from his own well-read father.

On September 19, 1911, William Golding was born in Cornwall, England. ("William Golding - Biographical") He was raised by his mother, Mildred, who was involved with the Women’s suffrage movement and his father, Alec who was a school teacher. He began his education at Marlborough Grammar School where his father worked as a teacher. While at Marlborough, he tried unsuccessfully to write a novel and this caused him to hurt others.
He drew paintings to pass time. He painted his first masterpiece in 1897, it was called The Dinner Table.
James Joyce was born one half of a mile from his mother’s birthplace in Ireland. Young James Joyce was born into a middle class family and was a brilliant student at the Jesuit Schools, Clongowes and Belvedere. This is made incredible because of how bad his home life was. His father was an abusive drink and gambled causing an unstable financial condition at his family. He later got accepted into The University College Dublin, getting a degree in Bachelor of Arts focusing on modern languages.
