The fast food industry makes billions of dollars each year and is spreading through our country like cancer. This is greatly because they invest countless dollars and time in their advertising. The spike in childhood obesity is a direct result of the industry pouring millions of dollars into marketing to attract children, teens, and families.
Fast food companies make billions of dollars each year, and they continue to make more money and grow. In the United States almost every town or city you visit has at least one if not dozens of fast food restaurants. It is said that one out of every three kids is considered to be overweight or obese. Many parents are unhappy with this and are blaming fast food companies. Most kids are unaware that what they are eating is unhealthy for them. Kids do not question the nutritional value of what they are eating.
Advertising to kids is an easy way for companies to make more money. If you think about it, kids are spending most of their day in front of some type of technology. Seeing a meal on tv and hearing them describe it can make a young teenager or kid crave something from one of those places. It is also easy to draw in younger kids through the advertisements too. The fast food industries add a toy to each meal making them want to come back every time to collect each toy.
Some people feel that the fast food industry should be able to advertise to whomever their customer base is, even if it is children. Claiming that the fast food industry is responsible for childhood obesity because their advertising practices target children is like claiming that the medical industry is responsible for the country's rise in illnesses because their advertising practices target sick people. Ultimately, the parents who continually feed their children fast food are to blame for our countries childhood obesity problem. Instead of preparing a well balanced meal at home, parents find that it is much easier to take their kids somewhere that is quick and
