The first production of the Model T was produced on August 12, 1908. On May 26, 1927, the 15 millionth Model T rolled off the assembly line at Ford's factory in Michigan. Today there are still fords being produced. This changed the Progressive Era, because the car became a demand and became powerful in the industrial world.

Before the assembly line, it took 14 hours to complete one Model T but with his new invention, it took only 1 hour and 33 minutes. Henry Ford opened at Highland Park, Michigan, in 1913 to manufacture the Model T cars marked only the first step toward full mass production and the beginning of America’s worldwide industrial supremacy (Brands, 581). As he was designing new designs in his spare time, he finally found a car that would take over the car industry. This car that separated Henry Ford was the Model T. This design made it affordable for the middle class. All before cars were just the toys that the higher class could afford. Before the Model T was perfected the Model B was on the market and this car catered to people who had extra funds because of the size being larger.
Henry Ford first started his process towards the assembly line when he introduced the Model T in 1908. The Model T was the very first motor vehicle. It was a simple and quite inexpensive, but not everyone was able to afford it, and production of these vehicles took time. The roads back then were nothing like the ones we have today. There were only about 18,000 miles of paved roads total in the United States. For all those that did not get the luxury of driving on the newly paved roads, the gravel and dirt took a toll on their vehicles. This is why Henry chose the materials he did, for the Model T. He wanted to make sure that the Model T could withstand the common tough terrain.
In the 1920’s, the car industry was evolving rapidly due to changes in mass production techniques, and societal acceptance. The car industry at the time was still growing and evolving, and with the assistance from Ford’s ingenious assembly line and Model T. A choice of colors were available, but from 1913 to 1925 the Model T was produced in only one color which was black. The engine was simple and reliable, with all four cylinders cast in a single block and the top of the cylinder was detachable, so it was easy to reach for repairs. The engine generated 20 horsepower and propelled the car to top speeds of 40-45 miles per hour. In most models the engine started by crank and activated a magneto connected to the flywheel, but in the 1920’s some models were equipped with battery-powered starters. The transmission, consisting of two forward gears and one reverse, was of the planetary type, controlled by foot pedals rather than the common hand lever on the steering column.
In the first year of production, Ford sold 10,607 Model T’s for $850 each. To accommodate this huge increase in productivity, his workforce increased from 5,200 workers to 13,200 workers in the matter of a few short months.
