Gabe Newell is the co-founder and managing director of the video game development and digital distribution company valve. Newell initially spent 13 years out of college (dropout) working on the first 3 versions of Microsoft windows. In 1996, Gabe Newell along with his friend and co-worker decided to leave Microsoft to found and develop Valve in 1996. Since 1996 Valve has grown to an estimated net worth of 2.2 billion dollars and is estimated at the largest and most influential gaming corporation. Newell has had issues with people and customers but quotes “he has tried to grow into his public image”.

In Gabe Newell’s reference, he states that he found it hard to talk to his customers and he is constantly learning to grow into his public image. This leaves the impression that he has found it difficult to deal with people and fit in within the past. The same is said with Musk, he talks about how he was frequently bullied when he was younger. If both of these innovators tried to fit in at school or in the workplace and tried to just get along, then they may have never been able to be as successful or achieve what they have achieved now. Both innovators also have a goal which they would like to achieve or have achieved. Gabe Newell wanted to change the gaming community and frequently expresses how he feels like other gaming companies are doing it all wrong. Elon Musk has the goal of changing the world to become multi-planetary and reduce global warming through sustainable energy production. Being different is important. If you aren’t different and you don’t express yourselves then new ideas and innovations won't become a reality. Newell and Musk were socially different, and I believe this helped to express themselves in creating new products and innovations. Having goals is important as well. Elon musk wishes to change the world. Both of these innovators have similar backgrounds, however, those chose to pursue different paths. With Gabe Newell choosing to pursue to change the gaming community this does not leave him the ability to pursue different innovations like Elon Musk can in the same way. Elon has always been developing different types of sustainable technologies. Gabe Newell has only created one company and that being Valve. In comparison, Elon Musk has created 7 different companies in order to help him achieve his goal of becoming multi-planetary. Changing the gaming community is not as important as changing the world. This is why I feel that Elon Musk is more inspiration to me because I feel like he is changing the world to give us a better future. This shows that the first main difference is how Gabe Newell only pursues one area of the community compared to Elon Musk who pursues various ventures throughout multiple communities. The second difference is that Gabe Newell has only created one company, Elon Musk has created 7. By doing this, this has allowed Elon to create further impacts within different
