Governor Haslam’s Impacts on the Education System in Tennessee In Tennessee, there are many things that make the state great, the food, the music, and the fun, but there are some things that need improvement. Accordingly, Governor Bill Haslam wants to take action on improving the state’s educational system by implementing several programs that will assist all ages to gain access to higher education and obtain a college degree. With these programs, Tennessee hopes to soar in education. The cause of this impressive new adventure of expanding education started with Governor Bill Haslam’s aspiration, “to be known as an ‘education governor’” (Daniels). The “Race to the Top” grant allows the state to raise educational standards and assignment content, advance programs that observe students’ understanding and to improve teachers’ education and placement in schools that are not performing to the state's standards (Daniels). Tennessee has reformed all educational standards to compete with other states’ curriculum. Consequently, assessing students at the end of the year helps to show true understanding, not just memorization. Moreover, the state has begun to work with the lower level schools to better equip the teachers on how to teach. This program is improving all schools and material throughout the state.
