Importance Of Advisory

Cypress Fairbanks school district has done a tremendously great job at providing its students with a variety of courses to select. However, with all that they provide and as students progress in their education, the more overwhelming and stressful it may be. For that reason, I strongly believe that Cypress Fairbanks should consider introducing and offering an advisory period to all of its high schools for its students to be required to take as an elective. Advisory is similar to what is known as an “off period” or a “study hall.” It is a period of time during the school day for teachers to meet with the same group of students on a daily basis for the purpose of advising them on academic, social, and planning means. Advisory may also be known as having time that would allow students to have the opportunity to be productive by either studying, finishing any incomplete assignments, participating in activities, or simply making use of the time by being able to access the internet that they may not have at home during school. Because advisory is structured to provide students guidance on a wide range of topics concerning their future, it would only make plenty of sense to add this course to high school requirements. According to research, it is proven that schools that experience high dropout rates or low academic achievement drastically improve through having advisory. It is a method for using time in school more productively, unlike having another elective that isn’t very efficient. Through advisory, teachers serve as mentors who monitor students to ensure that not one is left unattended, as well as assist them to develop a character that would lead them to a successful
