Within our education system, there is the desire to improve the performance, equality, and efficiency of schools and educational structure. The question asked, is how does our education system improve these areas, but also give an underlying purpose to the educational structure? Theoretically speaking, the answer to this question lies within the school’s mission statement; which defines the objectives of an organization. Mission statements characterize the values, objectives, and aspirations of the institution and by evaluating the similarities and differences between High School institutions and Technical Colleges mission statements allows for individuals to see the connection between the two structures and how they connect to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The mission of the Fort Atkinson School District is, “…committed to delivering the quality opportunity and services each student needs to achieve his or her academic and personal potential” (School Handbooks, n.d.). Looking at both of these mission statements I find them to be similar in the aspect of being terminally vague and need work to improve their statements to be more powerful. For a minimum base, mission statements should provide an individual with (1) why the organization exists, and (2) what the organization offers and how they are unique. Only stating the purpose within a mission statement, which these two-clearing due, it is not a mission. Purpose alone leaves a lot of individualized fill-in-the-blank decisions and actions, leaving them too vague. Adding the strategy within a mission statement gives critical direction on what is being offered and how the organization/business is unique. It answers how the organization pursues the purpose with guided actions. This gives individuals what they can expect from the
