The aim of this report is to discuss organisational culture and its importance and implications to the hospitality industry. Using academic articles and reading material, this report will provide a brief understanding of organisational culture, its importance in a business environment, how it can influence an organisation while also discussing the implications of a certain culture on an industry as diverse as hospitality. The report will also discuss culture change on an organisation while focusing on consequences and the importance of retaining an organisational culture within the workplace. It will not exist without structure, people and processes. These three factors build a triangle in which an organisational culture survives. Figure 2. Communication Organisational Culture Organisational culture can be divided into four categories – • Clan culture This organisational culture describes a more laidback of the four culture types. Clan culture appears as a family style culture where behaviours are shaped by loyalty and tradition and personal commitment, similar to that of a family environment. Emphasis is put on celebrating employees and traditions of the organisation. This is a productive style as it provides unity for all employees and makes for an enjoyable work environment as all employees support one another. • Entrepreneurial culture As described in the name, this organisational culture focuses hugely on growth and innovation, meeting demands and taking risks, all for the productivity of the business. This style of culture would usually apply more to a new company in the early stages of growth where the starting phase is crucial to succession. The Cow culture is described as being pathetic as they have no aspirations or potential, they have very little going for them and can be destroyed easily. The article includes other types of animal cultures but concludes with the Cat culture and how it would appear to be the strongest of all. This type of culture has all the traits needed to succeed in the world. The Cat culture is independent but territorial, flexible and curious, democratic but loyal, adaptable but self-interested. It is obvious from reading these traits that this type of culture can be represented by humans also. An important point made about the Cat culture is that they will not hesitate to leave their existing abode if they find a better source of food and attention, put into human context, an employee who does not receive appreciation or respect or whatever qualities they are seeking from an organisation, will go
