Several researchers agree; they point out that teaching students solely in English is detrimental, and that having a better understanding of students’ culture/language will greatly increase learning (García, Arias, Harris Murri, & Serna, 2010; McMillan & Rivers,
Understanding English helps immigrants find better jobs, reducing poverty and increasing the nation’s economy. Upon immigration to any country, one of the first things one must do is find a job. However, if one cannot speak the language of their new country, many employers find it disadvantageous to hire foreigners who are not English proficient. In Blackwell 's article “English Should Be America’s Official Language” he says that “[people] who can speak English can compete for better jobs, with better pay,” as they have one of the most basic skills required for most jobs in America (par. 10). In fact, some employers are even requiring their employees to only speak English while on the job.
I feel that it is important for children who do not speak English to learn it if they want to become prosperous in this country. It would also be beneficial for those who speak English to learn a second language. We have so many Spanish speaking individuals in our country that learning to speak their language could be beneficial for future generations to come. Children should also learn about other cultures
Of my point of view, I think it is important to fluency in the native language because it often helps to learn any other language. Parents must make an effort to make their children use to live with other nationalities, they must also have to be educated academically because they will understand what their children need better than parents do not have a good academic level. I read in some articles that there are some states in the US are making considerable efforts to help immigrant student families who do not speak English by translate the basic information that the family has to be knowing it. The goal of this is to educate the immigrant parents. I see this is only a preliminary solution, because it is very necessary to have parents or
Language is very important and is most effective when people can speak how they want. There may be disadvantages to language always changing such as people not knowing what others are saying. An example of this would be old people not knowing what teens are talking about on social media using modern lingo. Language adaption lets people use their creativity and makes communication more enjoyable. Our literacy is very important to our success as people.
Impact of Culture Culture is an important factor that affects one’s perception, it greatly influences one’s behavior and shapes their personality which can have a significant impact on one’s education and the curriculum. Stating the importance of culture must be assessed when teaching English Language Learners, ELLs. The challenges for many English Language Learners are not overcoming a language barrier but also achieving academically. Orosco and O’Connor state that “ELLs bring a wealth of cultural and linguistic knowledge into the classroom, but perhaps our schooling is a complex process that often separates students’ personal learning experiences from the classroom resulting in a challenge of acquiring the skills for reading instruction”.
6. IMPLICATIONS This chapter discusses the pedagogical and the research implications that evolved from this early sequential bilingual project conducted during the early years. The implications are based on the performance of the bilingual educators, the early childhood teachers and the children involved, as well as the materials employed to carried out this implementation. 6.1.

Research Questions From the literature review, it was established that there were several factors affecting language learning and acquisition. More specifically, it was revealed that factors such as exposure at an early age, motivation, attitudes, incentives and educational system can influence language acquisition. However, most of the research were conducted in the west and were focused on students as subjects to the study and foreigners working in the country where they need to learn the language to lengthen their range of employment opportunity.
However, many kids learn to speak another language, beside English, at home from their parents. Sometimes, it is the primary language. The primary language could be learned before English. Foreign languages should be required at elementary schools because it helps the students become more culturally diverse, students get more opportunities and foreign language can helps students relate to other students better.
Critical Essay 2 Norma Liendo Teaching English as a Second Language Teaching today has become a very interesting job for soon-to-be or current teachers due to the high culture diversity in their classrooms. Teacher not only have to be well prepared to present quality education but also to be able to accommodate for all the students needs regardless of origin, color or race. The important point is not teaching different children but due to their different backgrounds they learn differently; thus, the teachers now need to become aware of the students’ cultures in their classroom as soon as possible. These different learning styles should make the teacher knowledgeable that he/she might have to embark on a journey to explore the students’ cultures and embrace them because at the end of the day
“You can’t see other people’s point of view when you have only one language,” declared psycholinguist, Frank Smith. Just as it is mentioned in this quote, foreign language is important; therefore, people should learn a foreign language at an early age. When learning a foreign language at an early age, it helps people to concentrate and increase comprehension skills. Also, at a young age, the mind is fresh, so the person can take in more information and can easily master a foreign language. In addition, most secondary schools, universities, and jobs require a foreign language to be known.
It is encouraged for students to learn foreign languages as it has numerous benefits. Most countries have introduced foreign language starting from the early age. Today, the high school graduates are required to study foreign language in schools as it becomes a requirement for them to graduate from certain college with minimum of two years of learning foreign languages. Hence, the students are encouraged to learn on other language. Basically, foreign language is a native to another country and it is also a language which is not spoken in the native country of the person referred to.
Why taking a second language can be helpful Learning a second language has many lifelong beneficial other than just understanding the language itself, mainly if learned at a young age. Learning a second language can be done more efficiently as a young kid, and can open up many doors for later in life while being mentally advanced. When it comes to learning a second language, the younger you start the easier you will begin to learn your second language. Younger brains learn much easier than older brains because the brain is designed for language learning to take place between birth and adolescence (the period following the onset of puberty during which a young person develops from a child into an adult).
