The author discusses about the role of music journalism which particularly appears in the part of music publications. Music journalism plays an important role in the promotional strategies to support the musicians and the releases of new music, to announce the tour dates, and to assist in scheduling for the coming releases (Leonard, 2007, p.65). Furthermore, the image of the band, both visual look and personality of each members, can create and promote through the adoption of performance strategies. The image of the band also represented the style of music they play and how they engage attention from their audiences. The relationship between the performance and the concerns of marketing, the development of artists and the aesthetics of particular music genres are the final production process of promoting the artists (Leonard, p.89).
To understand promoting and marketing strategies of indie labels, this book presents the different ideas concerning the promoting tactic of the musicians. I consider that indie labels do not have to use the same strategy in promoting as major labels often do, because most of the indie musicians have their unique style of music and their personal appearances.
