Teaching and Caring for Infants and Toddlers
In the first three years of life, infants and toddlers are starting experience the process of building, understanding and maintaining relationships with their caregivers. During these years, everything in children's lives could impact on their brain development, in the meanwhile, they are learning to grow as the capable individuals through engaging with others, especially the caregivers (Kaywork, 2020). It is a continuous learning period which contains profound impact on children's development as meaningful engagements and interactions could be happening in the environment that children encounter every day. Moreover, the correlation strongly exits between children's attachments with caregivers and future mental and behavioural issues (Huber, 2016 & Kaywork, 2020). The theory points out the importance of consistent interactional patterns between young children and caregiver as it builds up young children's brain analysation mode, which strongly relates to children's capabilities in developing thoughts, emotions, self-identity, and expectations. At birth, relationship starts to form through infants attach to their caregivers. Between infant and caregivers, needs and communications of an infant are the key to form attachments (Kearns, 2020). In studies (Kaywork, 2020), infants who are consistently being interacted with and comforted by caregivers have a greater tendency to establish constancy and autonomy. The attachment theory is demonstrating a standard for caregivers to understand different attachment styles in order to act, prevent and reinforce based on children's behaviours. For example, disorganised attachment is a rising issue as it carries risks for young children's later social, emotional and cognitive developments (McLean, 2016). Children are showing difficulty not only giving but also receiving consistent support and comfort from caregivers. The impact of attachment should be emphasised by all the involved individuals in the child's life, as children’s development and later socio-emotional functioning rely heavily on the quality of their early care (Newman, et al. 2015 & Kearns,
