The communicator is the person sending the message, and the receiver is the person accepting the communication (Nelson & Quick, 2011). Communication can be one-on-one or involve multiple parties at once. Also, communication is verbal, non-verbal, and written. Norman will use oral and written communication to distribute ASDA’s new plan. Norman’s communication strategy will help gain ASDA personnel’s support for the shift to autonomy and empowerment. First, the employees will participate in the formal design of ASDA’s change. Initially, the 205 stores do not have official guidance to follow because Norman and his team want to observe the pros and cons of the process. Declarative knowledge is general information; procedural knowledge is skills and abilities; and motivation is the determination of the application, level, and persistence of behavior (Aguinis, 2013). All three factors must be high to obtain peak performance. The current employees already have an understanding of ASDA’s history and general applications within the store. Norman will provide tools and techniques to advance procedural knowledge. A motivation strategy will increase the people’s desire to perform well who wish to continue with the company, and will detect those who are not willing to change. ASDA’s current culture is igniting the downfall of the grocery chain. The company must undergo a behavioral change to turn the culture around. A behavioral change adjusts the employees’ conduct to benefit the organization’s change strategy and obtains optimum performance (Spector, 2013b).
