Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.
The United States Army and the Marine Corps are both ground forces used in fighting this country’s wars. The men and women serving in both branches of service risk their lives, so that we can sleep easy at night. While some differences between the Army and the Marine Corps are evident, but the Army is a far superior branch of service. The Marine Corps sole mission is the seizure or defense during operations of peace keeping.
The United States Marine Corps is a very important branch in our armed forces. Very few ladies and gentlemen decide to take the challenge of become a Marine. No one would argue when asked if the Marine Corps is tough and challenging. A young man decided to take the challenge to become a United States Marine. It was a turning point in his life and he was ready.

I have heard a plethora of great things for being a lifeguard at Foothills Swim and Racquet Club. For example, coworkers are nice, teaching swim lessons are fun because people get to form a relationship with the kids, and have the chance to meet new people. My brother, Andrew Sebald, worked at Foothills last summer and loved everyday he was working there. All the great things that I have heard about came mostly from Andrew. This made me want to have the opportunity to work at Foothills.
What is a Veteran? Federal law, moral code and military service define a veteran as "Any, Any, Any"... A military veteran is Any person who served for Any length of time in Any military service branch. However, they are much more than that. These people gave their ALL in the battlefield for us, so we can safely walk down the street, while our children play without fear of losing this freedom.

The military is seen throughout history serving and protecting a greater cause than their own. Historically, the United States would have never existed without a military. It was the organized revolutionary army that earned us freedom from Great Britain. The purpose of the military is to protect a nation’s citizens and territory from threats. The military gave me a different perspective to see the greater good is more important than myself.
