Middle School wasn’t all popularity and body odor. Sometimes things could almost be fun. For instance, I remember a student teaching our algebra class. I remember how I used to run cross country, and how in 8th grade the 6th graders used to think we were so cool -- and so did we. Then when we graduated, reality hit and we realized we weren’t. I remember a girl, sitting quietly in the corner of the parking lot. She was using her small hands to wipe away the tears, steadily streaming down her face. Her eyes were red. It had been a long year of endless bullying. The teasing went on and on, neverending. On occasions Middle Schools could be fun, even interesting at times. She showed us how to care for dogs, how to brush their hair, and how to clip their nails. It was one of the most interesting speeches I think I have ever heard. The average middle schooler, I’d guess, was annoying, as a consequence some kids were often bullied. Most of the time there was a playful atmosphere, people everywhere shouting and playing some kind of sport or another activity. The competition could be almost lethal, we all wanted to be the best, to be “cool”. There was always lots of pranks and horseplay. Although sometimes the pranks hurt.
