Poverty in Colorado Nearly 1 in 5 kids in Colorado may not always know when and where they will get their next meal. The majority of us had a decent breakfast this morning. We welcomed the new day in our warm houses, we showered and put on some decent clothes and we came to school. The majority of us do not have to worry about where to lay our heads at night because our families can provide us with everything we need. But that's not always the case. In Colorado there are so many children and women living below the poverty line. I would posit that poverty in Colorado should be a concern for the community and society of this state because many individuals, specifically women and children are affected by it. Poverty can cause serious emotional and physical damage to families. It is clear that one does not decide whether to be wealthy or poor. Families living in poverty often need help with housing, food and transportation. Many organizations like Volunteers of America work to bring families what they need to survive. Moreover they also provide jobs and opportunities to help families living above the poverty line to get up on their own and provide a better living situation for their families. However it's not enough, if the statistic show some or no growth in the family's income . Perhaps the help that some non-profits offer to families it’s useful but they could certainly do so much more. When a mother cannot afford the expenses of the everyday living, their family is in danger of being homeless, lacking of food and stability in general. Non- profits should not only give “economical “ support to the single mothers but also they should educate the families on how to be economical stable and provide them with unconditional support until they are ready to get up on their own
