Since the 1940s we have been using nuclear power as a source of energy. It is mainly used on power plants and consists of two types of generating in the nuclear energy process. Firstly there is nuclear fission, this consists of a neutron being fired at a high velocity and then colliding with uranium. This then causes the nucleus to split in half then creating a large amount of energy. Nuclear energy is surrounded by quite a few debates. For example, many argue that the use of nuclear energy can cause global warming, but because nuclear energy does not make greenhouse gases, it will help decrease a source of global warming. It also helps with the decreasing of our dependency of fossil fuels. Activist against the use of nuclear energy argue that the production of nuclear energy is expensive, nuclear energy is supported by government subsidies. They also argue that it is not only hurting the workers, but the land too. …show more content…
31 countries host about 447 commercial nuclear power reactors. The U.S as well as UK, Spain, Romania and Russia receive about one -fifth of nuclear energy. South Korea and Bulgaria are used to getting about more than 30% of their power from nuclear energy.(World Nuclear Association, August 2017). Japan is used to relying and receiving nuclear energy. Most European countries receive about one-third in nuclear energy, but France gets about three-quarters of nuclear energy. As of 2016 there are a total of 7 countries that oppose the use of nuclear energy. Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland are slowly cutting the use of nuclear energy. There are not any specific governments that oppose the use of nuclear energy, but instead there are countries, states as well as
