Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about life as a college student.
Central Idea: College life is a unique experience that teaches people knowledge they will keep with them for the rest of their lives.
Introduction
I. Attention Getter: Imagine the stress of being 30,000 dollars in debt or more.
A. This type of debt haunts millions of Americans nationwide.
B. Some people don’t finish paying this debt off before they die.
II. Reveal Topic: Of course, what I am talking about is college debt.
A. College is a rite of passage.
B. However, college is not for everyone.
III. Relate to Audience: 66% of Americans that graduated high school this year enrolled into college the following autumn.

Even if your career has nothing to do with college it would be wise to get a degree anyways.
IV. Credibility: A New York Times article states that the unemployment rate for people who only have a high school diploma is 17.8 percent%.
A. I believe that the stress of not being able to find a well-paying job outweighs the stress of college debt.
V. Preview Main Points: Now we will look at aspects of college life such as what it’s like getting started, the likelihood of quitting and the benefits of having a degree.

I. Getting Started: Starting off at a new school can be nerve wracking for several reasons.
A. Here are some things I wish I would have known before I started college.
1. Always go to class.
a. It might seem tempting to miss a class date because “not much” is going to happen in class today.
b. However, the feeling of being discombobulated will take effect once you get back from your hiatus.
c. So be sure to be in class unless it’s absolutely necessary to be absent.
2. Use the resources.
a. There were several places in my school I didn’t know existed before someone mentioned them to me.
b. The library, the writing center, the financial aid center and many more are there to help
