I have chosen Celiac disease because I myself suffer from Celiacs. I feel like people don’t really know what Celiacs actually is. Also what are side effects, and what it does to your body. I hope I will be able to inform you a little bit more about this disease in these coming paragraphs. Hope you like it! Celiac Disease is a disease that occurs in your stomach and intestines. There are these things called Villi in your small intestines, they are like almost hairs, to absorb the food and protein. When a Celiac eats the slightest speck of gluten; a protein found in wheat, barley, malt, oat and flour the body sends out an immune response and kills all the Villi in the small intestine. Some symptoms can be anywhere from pain in stomach, to rashes, to even if untreated Cancer. Celiacs is not something to be taken lightly. Celiacs is always with a person, but it something happens to trigger it. For example I was diagnosed with Celiacs at age 9, my father was diagnosed at 37, and my grandmother at 58. The only way to manage this disease is to eat a specific strict diet of no wheat or gluten. That means think of all your favorite foods, and eliminate them from your diet basically. From cookies, to cake, to anything that is made with a certain flour or bread. There are gluten free options but 9/10 of them are like eating bricks because they are made with rice flour not wheat. Living gluten free is not a fun way of life! All in all, Celiacs is nothing to mess around with. I hope I was able to give you a glimpse of the average life of somebody who suffers with Celiac Disease. It’s getting more and more common to hear about people with Celiacs.
