I believe this experiment was ethical because it talked about specific behaviors and also morality. It also explained why people followed authority’s commands and it gave examples such as the Hitler’s regime which was the introduction of the experiment. I believe the experiment overall was good however I don’t think it was organized correctly. I honestly think pieces were all over all place and that the information was messy. I also noticed that multiple points were violated in this experiment. For example, I don’t believe they gave the volunteers an enough clear explanation on the experiment. “Informed consent is a critical basic safeguard” (Graziano & Raulin, 2013, p.70). Confidentiality on the other hand is also very important because most experiments require some personal information. “Specifically, the researcher must maintain strict confidentiality of the information gathered about participant” (Graziano & Raulin, 2013, p.70). I also noticed that the experiment didn’t specify that any risk to the participants outweigh the potential benefits which has me asking questioning if people didn’t have enough information why would they even agree to doing this experiment to begin with? “The Belmont Report argued that participants in research have the right to know what the study involves, and researchers must give them enough clear information so they can freely decide whether to participate” (Graziano & Raulin, 2013, p.69). Mr. Williams also didn’t include evidence that the results will in fact benefit the society. In fact at the ending of the experiment he was very black and white.
