Communication Problem Solving Encouragement

Date: Wednesday 27th July
Activity: Re-Zoom
I had to use my communication skills in the activity, Re-Zoom, a game that involves arranging a series of pictures in order, when we had to tell each other what was on our cards without being able to show them. Clear communication was very important and was definitely a factor in our team's success when completing the puzzle. We also had to use our problem solving skills to find ways to try and get the puzzle in the right order without being able to show what cards we had to other team members. As it is all over in a flash, the team doesn’t have time to think of big long winded strategies so quick problem solving, being able to communicate your thinking quickly and positive encouragement of moves was crucial in the success of the team. In the activity magic boots, there wasn’t really a need for encouragement, however there was no need for negativity. This challenge was all about problem solving skills, and to an extent, communication of these ideas. After making a step by step plan of how we would complete the challenge, we executed it and were able to complete it. The activity monster walk was again a lot to do with problem solving and communicating various ideas we had on how to complete the puzzle. After a fair amount of trial and error, we were able to complete the challenge with the help of positive encouragement from the team. Communication was important to be used during the safety briefing of both the activities. Communication is a two way street so we had to listen carefully to the instruction videos to make sure we knew what was going on and knew how to make sure we stayed safe. Communication was also important in our paintball teams when we discussed tactics we would take into the game with us. Encouragement was important in both activities, particularly when people were out of their comfort zone, be that when doing backflips into a foam pit at mega air or during paintball, people were learning all the time. Encouragement is important for the overall morale of the team and it is important to make sure everybody has fun when getting out and getting active. Problem solving was not particularly important for mega air, however it was a lot more important in paintball, which is a very tactical game. We were problem solving all the time when playing paintball as their are a lot of decisions that had to be made quickly.
