For this particular assignment, the decision was made to procure an interview with the CEO of one of the most prominent, high-growth organizations in the country. Tecnoglass. This company was initially chosen because of the massive growth that it has managed to harness in recent years. In fact, during the first semester of 2015, the company exhibited a 56% growth in sales, not to mention that its stock is publically traded at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) since 2014. The company’s exponential growth was very interesting, and so it was important to learn more about the company’s leadership, since the only way for an organization to sustainably grow and develop is through positive strategic leadership.

Daes recognizes that this leadership style was counterproductive, because he did not have the knowledge, the time, the energy, or the resources to stay on top of all of his employees and carry out his duties as company President and CEO at the same time. With time, he started to realize that this style resulted in increased employee turnover and a workforce with a low overall morale. Also, he soon realized that the company was unable to meet the (unrealistic) goals and objectives that he was setting. Accountability also reinforces this trend. As employees feel challenged they also feel valued, which inspires them to push their own limits and reach new peaks of performance.
Seeking to evaluate whether or not the leadership style implemented by Cristian Daes at Tecnoglass can be translated to other organizations, there is no question that it can be successfully implemented in any organization competing in any industry. Autocratic leadership may have some advantages, but it is applicable under very specific circumstances. In this day and age, in which new employee generations seek value in all that they do and place a premium on job motivation, satisfaction, and empowerment, autocratic leadership does appear to have outlived its purpose.
In a highly globalized marketplace, competition runs high and so does the need for technological innovation and human resources of the highest quality (in terms of both academic studies and personal/professional experience). Autocratic leadership hinders proactive employment and the development of critical thinking skills, which is precisely what today’s businesses require in order to remaining competitive in the long term. Also, it is undeniable that different employees have different strengths and weaknesses. This is something that a good leader needs to recognize in order to demand in the measure that the employee
