Christopher Columbus was an explorer who was known to discover the new world. There was another side to Christopher Columbus that they don’t talk about. Columbus first set foot in Hispaniola where he encountered a group of native that was called the Taino. I agree that his accidental discovery ultimately led to the massacre of countless Natives. Although, he might be considered a hero for 'discovering ' the New World. However, there were several who came before him and inhabited the land, such as the Natives. Thus, the impossibility of discovering something that had already been in place. For this reason, I would not consider Columbus a hero.
When Christopher Columbus set out in 1492 to make his great discovery, I do not think he felt his reputation would ever be called into question, after all, he was settle out with the blessing of the Spanish monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella. I think that he felt his intentions were true and he was determined to be just in his acquisition of the New World. All in all, I believe Christopher Columbus to be neither all good nor all bad because I think him to be both. When Columbus came upon the new found land he sent word back of its vast beauty and fertility. Even though many people believe that christopher columbus was a hero I have found in my opinion that I believe he was a villain. I believe this because in the 4th document in the article about Christopher Columbus it was said that many people and indians were killed after his arrival and before his arrival there were many more people there than after his arrival. The people were killed from war, slavery and working in mines for Columbus. One other reason that I believe he was a villain is because if I was those people who were ruled by Columbus I would have stood up for not just me but everyone who was being mistreated by Columbus.

History is a painting that is constructed in the winner’s point of view. Columbus is viewed as the founder of the new world, but even that is far from the truth. First of all, numerous explorers and tribes such as the Vikings set foot on the other side of the Atlantic long before Columbus was even born.
I think Columbus should be remembered for the good and the bad things he did. I don't think that Columbus should be portrayed in a good light but I also don’t think he should be portrayed in a completely bad light either. Columbus contributed a lot to today's society without Columbus’s voyage to the Americas we wouldn't be here today. Columbus was one of the brave voyagers who decided to disagree with many people of that time and believe that the earth was round.
Christopher Columbus is a man who is commonly depicted as a hero and great explorer who discovered our modern day America, but many of the so called “facts” are not all completely true as people would like to believe.
