The main reason I want to take AP English 4 is because this course will help prepare me for college and give me a strong background in English. AP English 4 will be more challenging than the regular English 4 classes. By me taking a harder course it will force me to push myself to be a better student. The workload that is to be expected in AP English 4 will help prepare for the workload I will face in college. English is a subject that has always been my strong suit and I want to be able to advance my knowledge in that subject.
Comparing my essays from the EOC to how I am suppose to write in the AP Language and Literature exam, I realized how the essays have changed. They are two essays that are so different, the structure of the essay has changed compared to the way I would write in the EOC. From the way it has to sound to even the way it looks. When my professer first gave me an essay, I stayed looking at the prompt thinking what or how I am suppose to write the essay. Then when she said three hundrend to four hundered word I instanly felt as if I my hand was already falling off.
Having my high school at the AP program established under SCNU was always one of my luckiest things happened to me. At here, I was trained to be priorly familiar with the U.S. education system and successful after coming to the U.S. where all the students were supposed to go. In order to be prepared, I was trained to write different kinds of essays, including laboratory report, social science research paper and literature expository writing. I have started to write all these kinds of essays since grade 10, and every writing assignment has gone through the process of outlining, drafting, peer proofreading and editing. At college, my writing style hasn’t really changed, yet, the way I write an essay has changed.
You should approach your high school english assignments with confidence. If you doubt your own work, it will never get done. When I was an underclassmen in high school, I would often spend hours working on smaller assignments that could be done in thirty or forty minutes. Although the style of writing in AP English weren't realistic to an actual college class, I learned to trust my writing abilities, and use the feedback from my teacher to improve my writing. Never try to write or read when you are tired.
Hey there fellow AP English student, now that you decided to take this course, I have some tips that could help you be successful. But, I'm also not going to lie to you. It's going to be hard. In the beginning, you're going to be very frustrated and really question why you ever decided to pick this class, but we all went through that and are still living. So bear with me, because in the end, all the confusion, disappointment, and vexation, are all worth it.
I took AP English Language and Composition during the 2016-17 school year. My overall grade in the class was an A. Participating in this class taught me invaluable lessons about how to convey my ideas clearly both in written and spoken word. In-class essays and the rigor of larger projects taught me to focus not only on what I was writing, but also how I was writing it. Techniques for editing and reading that I learned in AP Lang have made it easier to read my writing with more self-awareness, and also to consider how it will be interpreted by my audience and what I can do to influence that interpretation. Having taken AP Lang, I now feel more confident approaching nearly any English-related assignment, and know that I have the skills necessary
AP classes are said to be very hard, of course very challenging, and that they suck the living life out of you. However, regardless of that, I still choose it, because I believe that the more of writing skills you have, the better. I can’t have enough of English skills, because there is always something I can improve on. With all the different literary techniques, I can write better essays.
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
Transitioning from high school to college can be overwhelming. Before English 1301, I did not worry about preparing for college. I quickly realized that my little background in writing essays was not enough for college courses. Writing is not just a skill that I will need for English classes. In college, I will have to use effective writing skills in all my classes to complete research papers, essay tests and communicate with professors.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
In my writing at first I with many part of sentence structure and grammar. Trying to not mess up in structure I was unable convey my ideas. Over the course of the semester it has became easier by every essay. My improvement was some not severely, but learning the basic again will help me for all class and other English courses. Writing again was something I slowly was becoming accustomed again as before.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
This semester has been an ongoing challenge for me but has been an enjoyable one and I have not been presented with any impossible tasks. I have never been much of a writer, and during the course of this semester, I 've struggled to meet length requirements on the assigned essays. However, I do understand that not everyone is an excellent writer or even has to enjoy writing to get a good grade in this 1A class. From the start, with the first essay, I pushed myself to do my best and looked to multiple outlets to polish my writing, such as the online tutor, the writing center, the internet and the writer 's handbook.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
It unlike some less formal types of writing, academic writing focuses on technique and how it should be used to best communicate ideas. If students learn about style and how to write essays early on in their academic careers, they find it much easier to write essays in college and university.
